Tinactin

December 9, 2008

Tinactin is a cure for athletes foot.  Commercials will often show this on ESPN or other prodominetly male channels.  Why?  The actors in the commercial are always males, the voice talking to sell the product is also male, but men aren’t the only people who play sports.  I’ve known several women who have had athletes foot, but you don’t see Serena Willims, or any other women for that matter advertising this product.  Perhaps women don’t play hard enough to get athletes foot, maybe it’s “a guy thing” and us women wouldn’t understand.  No thats not it, becuase women are looked at as equals now, correct?  Maybe thats not as true as we’d like to believe.

There are proffessional women sports, yes I know, but when you click over to ESPN or any other main sports channel 99% of the time it is a bunch of men playing; hockey, football, soccer, baseball, ect.  Tinactin is just a can of spray that cures most athletes foot, but I can’t help but wonder…Is a womens ahtletes foot the same as a mans?  According to media women don’t play as much or as hard so perhaps they have a Tinactin sensitive for us women athletes.  Tinactin is nothing but a spray, but to me its a symbol of our world and how women are viewed in athletics.

Reporters/News.

December 9, 2008

News has always been biast toward the reporters point off view, and is written or presented in a way that will provoke certain feelings out of the audience.  Whom that audience is, is crucial in what and how the reporter writes and reports on.  For example, News Papers that were written in the era of racism would write, in a “white news paper”, how Blacks attacked the police and rebeled against authority.  Where as in a Black paper, the top story would be a Black male being beaten by the white police.  This just goes to show that what we read or see in news can and will often be biast towards its audience.

Everyone Im sure has seen the movie Harry Potter: And the Goblet of Fire, but if you have not there is a scene, after he gets chosen as a champion for the Tri Wizard Cup, where he was forced into a closet with Ritta Skitta a writer for The Daily Profit.  She begins to interview him, and as she does so she asks Harry questions regarding the Cup and his parents.  And as this interview continues she falsely states his age and exaduarates what Harry is saying. Which is a perfect example of what media is, media is the manipulated truth that, in a scense tells us what we want to here.  Ritta Skitta is a figure head to all news in present day.  They report news, and supress the biast exaduated truth that “their ” audiences belive and turst.
